Kareena Kapoor joins NDTV's a safe India for women

Kareena Kapoor has joined the NDTV campaign for a safe India for women. Being an icon for women of today, Kareena, promptly agreed to advocate the channel's cause. According to a source close to the actress, Kareena feels very strongly for women and hopes that the issues concerning them will be taken more seriously.

"Why in our country is a woman, irrespective of her socio-economic status, so vulnerable? Is it too much to ask for women to be able to walk the streets freely without the fear of being assaulted or attacked? Be it Delhi’s notorious streets or Mumbai’s trains, Bangalore’s BPO workers or the women being burnt on suspicion of affairs in Bundelkhand and women being killed for same caste marriages in Haryana and Rajasthan….the list is endless. A woman is worshipped in the form of Durga and Saraswati and she is eve-teased and made a victime of ill-treatment in our country. How ironic is that? These are some of the issues that Kareena feels very strongly about," said our source.

The Bollywood superstar wants the cold facts to be highlighted and getting citizens to sign the petition to be presented before the President, Pratibha Patil, one of the most positions in the country, and held by a woman!

"Kareena feels that this help spread widespread awareness amongst the common man. When a celebrity like Bipasha Basu is not spared one can imagine the grind the common women must be experiencing daily," said the source.

NDTV Source: The Shakti campaign is a way of reminding India that violence against women in India today is indiscriminate, regardless of a woman's earning power, class or caste. We need to reclaim and reinforce the indisputable fact that any violence of any form against women be it physical, sexual or mental is unacceptable. Kareena Kapoor joining NDTV for the Shakti campaign is a major boost for us, because she represents the modern, fearless woman of today and her endorsement will enable others who look up to her as a role model to speak out as well.

Kareena says Saif likes me in a bikini

Kareena Kapoor is not only a glamorous actress but a very talented actor too. She feels happy to be recognized as sexy, hot but what makes her feel more proud is that she is first of all recognized as a good actress. Kareena reveals that she loves being called sexy but she has taken a strict decision that she would never don bikini on-screen. The question that arise is whether it is Saif Ali Khan’s decision or Kareena took the decision all by herself?. Bebo replies that Saif likes her in a bikini.

She says, "Saif likes me in a bikini. He has no issues with it. Saif actually prefers me glamourous. He liked me in Kambakkht Ishq; he thought I was very hot in it. He says that it is his personal choice but he doesn't necessarily want me to abide by it. Saif likes it when I use a bit of make-up and dress fashionably rather than when I step out looking like a plain-Jane."

Kareena decided to stay away from a bikini shot as her fans prefers her more in desi avatar rather than a bikini.

"The bikini is a highly overrated garment. For me it has lost its' novelty. I have worn it twice on screen. In Tashan, (2008) and in Kambakkht Ishq (2009). However my fans preferred me in Jab We Met (2007), 3-Idiots (2009) and Golmaal 3 (2010) where I stayed steered clear of exposing. I don't have the patience to go through the whole regimen that needs to be in place for your body to look bikini-perfect. So I've decided that I will not wear a bikini on screen again."

Kareena, Deepika at loggerheads

Kareena Kapoor is upset with Deepika Padukone because Deepika is spreading the rumor all around that she is the original choice for ‘Chammak Challo’ track of ‘Ra.One’.

Says a source, "Recently, Dippy has been telling anyone willing to hear that she was the original choice for the Chamak Challo dance number in Ra.One and that producer Shah Rukh Khan had her in mind for the item number.

And that Bebo threw a fit when she heard of it. Kapoor is upset and feels Dippy is only doing this to gain mileage from the Dum Maaro Dum title track."

A source close to Bebo insists, "Chamak Challo is not even an item number. Kareena is the film's heroine and the song is part of the story so how can Deepika even be considered?

These rumours amuse Bebo. DP may be spreading this rumour as her DMD track isn't the hit it was touted to be."

Ra.One director Anubhav Sinha says, "We never approached Deepika for an item song. Chamak Challo is an integral part of the story.

The song will be catchy, glamorous and sexy but it's not an item song, which are usually random additions that don't need a story."
